About us
Knowledge Tree and Butterfly helps people who work with data and evidence put AI agents to work on their real workflows, with every number traceable to the code that made it.
The company
Knowledge Tree and Butterfly Ltd was incorporated in Scotland on 1 September 2026, and is based in Edinburgh.
The name is the method. A knowledge tree is an analysis kept alive on purpose: roots in the data and the literature, a trunk and branches of code, and outputs as fruit that can be grown again when the data change. The butterfly is curiosity, which decides where the tree fruits next.
Who “we” are
We are small. The company is its founder-director and the agents that work for it: Rabbie, who keeps the diary and the records, and the do-bots that do the implementation. How this company runs itself is one of our case studies.
Where a piece of work needs someone we do not have, we say so, and suggest who.
Our founder

Jon Minton is the founder-director: a statistician whose work has crossed biostatistics, health economics and HTA, academic research, epidemiology, systematic review, demography, actuarial science and data science.
In Jon's words:
In October 2025, working as a statistician, I discovered agentic AI: a model working inside what developers call a code harness, or scaffold. It changed how I thought analytical work should be done — and how urgently.
Jon's 2020 fertility paper, rebuilt with about ten more years of data, is one of our case studies: Science Supercharged.
