The jobs you know, evolved
With agentic AI workflows, traditional roles don't disappear, they evolve. Here's how three roles might change, and how they work together.
Episode 1: developer to wrangler
The words
A developer hatches. It gets a harness, and a do-bot walks in. The do-bot bolts; the lasso brings it back. Context piles up and is swept away.
The developer becomes the wrangler. It keeps git and the terminal, and now looks after everyone else's legibility.
Episode 2: analyst to specifier-validator
The words
An analyst hatches and types code by hand. A do-bot takes over the typing. A result comes back sick: P = 1.7. The medicine is a rule: 0 ≤ P ≤ 1.
The analyst becomes the specifier-validator. It keeps its judgement about denominators and writes the rules the agent must pass.
Episode 3: domain expert to question owner
The words
A domain expert hatches and falls asleep waiting for an analysis: Q1, Q2, Q3. A hunch goes in, the hourglass shrinks to a pixel, and the answer comes back. Hunch, answer, hunch, answer. Nothing to clean.
The domain expert becomes the question owner, in the loop all day. Once in a while, a rarer one hatches in a cowboy hat.
The band
The words
Three devices evolve together and link up. The screens become one stage: drums, then bass, then a singer who sings question marks. A butterfly hovers overhead and never lands.
A question goes in. An apple comes out.
Three people. One question. One day.
Put the band together
The films show the sprint: three seats, one question, one dataset, a day or two. Someone who knows the field, an analyst, and a developer working as the AI wrangler, with a coding agent in the room, producing the analysis and the report together at a pace none of them could reach alone.
- For
- A sponsor who owns a substantive question, has a known and accessible dataset, and has somewhere for the answer to go.
- You bring
- The question, the data or a pointer to it, and any of the three seats you can fill yourselves. We bring the rest.
- You get
- A sprint with a report at the end, or a standing team for a quarter. The team learns the practice by using it.
If your organisation already has all three seats, we facilitate instead: Supergroups, one of the three ways we deliver any piece of work.
